"Being proactive is key to securing financial success, which is why, when Michael sees an opportunity the client doesn’t, he’ll jump on it while ensuring the client understands why."
Tax compliance can be complicated, especially when it comes to trusts and estates, and small businesses. That’s why Michael Corvelli, CPA, always stays one step ahead of his clients to provide proactive guidance. It’s all part of his goal to eliminate the stress between clients and tax authorities while searching for the most favorable benefits of the tax code for each client, particularly individuals, businesses and trusts and estates with interests in the professional services sector.
Michael, a tax manager at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) with more than 40 years of experience as a certified public accountant in the District of Columbia, approaches every engagement by emphasizing sound and astute advice for tax planning and compliance for every taxpayer. That starts with uncovering their needs and finding out as much as he can about each client even outside of the engagement, to identify factors that can influence their financial position so Michael and the CBM team can adapt to their needs. His passion for finding ways clients can minimize their tax liabilities often leads him to take action quickly. If he sees an opportunity that the client doesn’t, he’ll jump on it while ensuring the client understands why. That approach has resulted in Michael successfully working with the IRS to eliminate tens of thousands of dollars of taxes and penalties for individuals, involving retirement plans and foreign earned income exclusions.
When Michael is not helping clients navigate the tax world, he enjoys spending time with family and friends at the beaches of southwest Florida, specifically Captiva Island, where he’s been traveling since 1991. National parks are also among his favorite destinations, especially those in the West and Southwest such as the Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Arches and the Grand Canyon.
