Dan Weaver, director of CBM’s not-for-profit practice, Senior Vice President Judy Barnhard, and Senior Advisor Tony Cuozzo are scheduled to present at the 2020 Greater Washington Society of CPAs’ (GWSCPA) Nonprofit Symposium from Monday, December 14 through Wednesday, December 16. The Symposium is an annual two-day event that delivers networking and professional education opportunities for hundreds of financial professionals in the nonprofit sector throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Due to COVID-19, this years Symposium will be held virtually.
Mr. Weaver and Mr. Cuozzo’s presentation entitled, 2020 Pandemic – Knowing What ‘Vaccine’ Your Auditors Look for to Avoid Your Going Concern Issues will focus on the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the financial health of not-for-profits and other organizations, and what auditors may examine during their next audit to evaluate whether management has taken appropriate steps to determine whether their organization should be considered a going concern.
Ms. Barnhard’s presentation entitled, Planning to SECURE Charitable Gifts: How the SECURE Act Supports Donations or Retirement Assets, will be co-presented with Linda Kotis, a member of Washington D.C. law firm, Ivins, Phillips and Barker. This session will examine the impact of the SECURE Act on retirement savings, RMDs, beneficiary designations, and choices between Roth and traditional accounts, and educate nonprofit leaders and financial advisors on planning opportunities with retirement assets to aid development activities, planned giving efforts, and cultivation of donors.
Over the past several months, Mr. Weaver and Ms. Barnhard have led a series of professional education events highlighting the impact of the CARES Act and Paycheck Protection Program relief efforts on not-for-profit organizations and professional service businesses.
