Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) was recognized for the fourth consecutive year by the Accounting MOVE Project, which investigates factors proven to be essential to women’s career success in the accounting profession. CBM appeared on the Project’s 2022 list of best firms for equity leadership, reflecting a high level of representation of women in management-level positions. Thirty-five percent of partners at CBM are women.
“We feel fortunate to be recognized for this years-long trend of leadership at the top level of our firm,” said Michelle Vance, production, training and database manager at CBM, and a co-director of Diversity – Professional Accountants and Advisors Transforming the Horizon (D-PATH), CBM’s internal group committed to leadership, networking, and career and professional development opportunities for women and minorities. “We value the ongoing collaboration with the Accounting MOVE Project to champion advancement opportunities for all professionals.”
As a result of its latest annual survey of accounting firms, The Accounting MOVE Project reports a growing interest in more responsibility among younger women professionals, rethinking and increasing career advancement for women who led and supported successful firm strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic, and shifting approaches to improving work-life balance.
“We consistently strive to be a firm the accounting industry looks to as a champion for women’s professional achievement,” said Daniel L. Weaver, CPA, president and managing partner of CBM. “The talents of our current and future women leaders have a direct impact on our firm’s success and we believe one source of our professional reputation is due to their contributions.”
Firms that appear on the Accounting MOVE Project’s list of top firms for equity leadership must have at least 30% women partners and principals, as roughly a third is the widely recognized tipping point for members of an identity group to have an individual impact. Firms on the list have achieved this milestone through a combination of culture, programs, initiatives and growth.
