Debora E. May, CPA, CFP®, CDFA®, a partner at CBM and a director of the firm’s divorce litigation practice group, is scheduled to co-present on Wednesday, February 9, on the forensic expertise needed in collaborative divorce cases dealing with extramarital romantic relationships for the DC Academy of Collaborative Professionals. With Theresa Mihalik, Esq., Debbie will explore strategies to address complaints by one spouse that the other has secretly misspent marital funds on such pursuits. The discussion, which will highlight the contributions of collaborative professionals to help identify the funds involved in such cases, will be addressed in a sensitive manner to address both sides with respect, regardless of the behaviors or accusations. Debbie will discuss how to navigate conflicting tensions between the injured and occasionally punitive spouse and the the accused spouse. Debbie and Theresa will also share tested methods to resolve a spouse’s request for financial reparations for marital funds spent on such pursuits.
