The Greater Washington Society of CPAs has elected Julia Lafferty, Principal at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM), to its board of governors. CBM has a long history working with GWSCPA dating back to 1924 when the firm’s founder, James Councilor, served as the society’s first president.
GWSCPA, a not-for-profit organization serving the DC-area accounting profession, promotes ethical standards and educational opportunities and support for its members. The Society also acts as a liaison contact with Capitol Hill, state, and local governments and provides advice to standard-setting organizations that regulate the field.
“I appreciate the opportunity to participate in a leadership capacity with GWSCPA and I look forward to helping the Society support the accounting profession and its professionals,” says Lafferty who has over 25 years of auditing and consulting experience. “This organization has spent decades serving and supporting CPAs and I am honored to provide my expertise to the governing board.”
Beside her newly elected position on the Board of Governors, Lafferty chairs the GWSCPA 2019 Not-For-Profit Symposium Planning Committee. She also served as a panelist last month at GWSCPA’s 6th Annual Employee Benefits Plan Conference during a presentation event entitled “Life in the Fast Lane: Optimizing Your Firm’s High-Quality Approach to Employee Benefit Plan Audits.”
Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) is a professional services firm delivering tax, accounting and business advisory expertise throughout the Mid-Atlantic region from offices in Bethesda, MD and Washington, DC.
